Director Bishal Dutta’s feature debut, “It Lives Inside,” is a supernatural horror thriller. The plot follows Sam, an Indian-American teenager grappling with her heritage, who accidentally releases a demon that thrives on her former best friend’s loneliness. Sam must embrace her Indian roots to confront this malevolent force. While the film’s premise is promising, it falls short in execution, feeling derivative and overly cautious. Nevertheless, “It Lives Inside” remains watchable and moderately entertaining, primarily due to Suri’s strong performance as Sam. Bajwa and Gabriel also contribute emotionally rich supporting roles, and Dutta successfully creates a creepy atmosphere that builds tension. The film relies too heavily on ineffective jump scares, and its representation of Indian culture in a horror context, while commendable, doesn’t deliver the expected chills.
